LPN = RN Career Mobility

The LPN-RN Career Mobility Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree program (AASN) is designed to prepare nurses who can assess client, develop a plan of care, implement the plan of care skillfully, and evaluate the effectiveness of the care given. Care is provided to clients in a variety of settings. The program is offered on the Avon Williams TSU Campus. The course of the study includes 24 credits of general education hours and 36 credit hours (credit is awarded for 8 hours) of nursing courses following admission to the program.

Upon successful completion of the AASN program required courses and the School of Nursing comprehensive exam requirement the student is eligible for graduation and the NCLEX-RN licensure examination.

  • Officially admitted to TSU with all remedial/developmental requirements completed.
  • High school graduate or GED scores of 50. Applicants with GED scores less than 50 must complete prescribed college level courses with a minimum CGPA of 2.80.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.80 on completed college work.
  • One year of high school or one semester of College Chemistry with lab, with a grade of “C” or better, must be completed by the application deadline.
  • Verification of math competency at the intermediate algebra level by university testing or completion of required courses.
  • Completion of the pre-admission nursing entrance examination with scores of 80 or higher on Reading, 75 or higher in Math.
  • Minimum of 1-year clinical experience or (LPN training completed in the previous 6 months at a state approved LPN school may substitute).
  • The curriculum plan must be followed in the sequence listed in the University catalog. General education required courses must be taken as prerequisites.
  • Call 615-963-5265 for dates/times or attend a scheduled open advisement session.
  • Bring copies of all transcripts to the advising session.
  • Bring copy of current course enrollment and copy of license.
  • Submit application materials.
  • Completed application to the School of Nursing and submit required documents.
  • Copies of transcripts from all institutions.
  • Copy of current course enrollment.
  • Compass Placement Examination Scores.
  • Copy of pre-admission nursing entrance examination scores.
  • Copy of current Tennessee LPN license.
  • Letter of reference from immediate supervisor and letters verifying employment from Human Resources Office on company letterhead.
  • Letter of Intent.

The Admissions Committee will consider students who have submitted completed application material. Applications received are considered on a space available basis. Students who are not admitted must reapply to be considered for the next admission period. Students who meet admission criteria are ranked for selection for the upcoming class.

The order of selection for applications received will be ranked by:

  • Cumulative GPA on all college work.
  • All general education courses must be completed as prerequisities.
  • Completion of the pre-admission nursing entrance examination with an 80 or higher on Reading, 75 or higher on Math, and Chemistry.

Students must return the acceptance form by the date listed in the letter to assure their space in the class. Students who do not return the acceptance form by the date listed in the letter will be removed from the admission list.
